Guy Montag is a fireman. The firemen in his world start fires rather than extinguish them, where TV rules and literature disappears. He is responsible for destroying the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, as well as the houses where they are hidden. Mildred, who spends all day watching television, never asks why Montag destroys the world with his destructive actions. His life changes after meeting Clarisse, an eccentric neighbor who introduces him to a past where people did not live in fear, and to a present in which ideas in books are more important than mindless television chatter. A few days after Mildred attempted suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappeared, Montag began to question his existence and everything he knew. As a result of his pilfering, the fireman has to flee his home when his activities are discovered.
